Records & Research

Rebecca W. Throop was born 8 August 1801, a daughter of Thomas Billings Throop (1771-1856) and Catherine Walker (b. 1776), per the 2006 family report. A published Throop genealogy (Herbert D. Throop) corroborates her FATHER only — "Thomas Billings Throope, b. 1771, of Middleburg and Hanover, N.Y., and Algonquin, Ill." — in a passing mention that does not name his wife or children and does not attest Rebecca. No public record naming Rebecca herself could be located, so her death, burial, marriage, and any children remain undocumented in accessible sources.

Open questions (7)
  • No public record naming Rebecca W. Throop (b. 8 Aug 1801) herself was found on FindAGrave, FamilySearch (public ancestors tree), WikiTree, Geni, or BillionGraves — death date, burial place, any married surname, spouse, and children are all undocumented in accessible sources. The one cited corroborating source attests only her father, not Rebecca.
  • The mother Catherine Walker (b. 1776) as the wife of Thomas Billings Throop could not be confirmed in any accessible source; the published Throop genealogy does not name Thomas's wife or children.
  • The report gives no birthplace for Rebecca. Given her father's residences, her likely birthplace is Middleburgh/Hanover, New York (c. 1801) — but this is inferential and unverified.
  • Rebecca may appear under a married surname (which would explain the absence of a Throop record). The middle initial 'W.' may stand for Walker (her mother's maiden name), a common naming pattern — unverified.
  • Note a place ambiguity in the cited genealogy: 'Hanover, N.Y.' may be in Chautauqua Co. rather than Schoharie Co.; combined with the father's later residence in Algonquin, Illinois, records for Rebecca could exist in New York or Illinois — not searched exhaustively due to tool budget.
  • A 'Throop family Bible' (FamilySearch Catalog #1841677, records 1830-1927) may contain this family but was not accessible without authentication.
  • AUDIT NOTE: The single supporting source (Herbert D. Throop genealogy PDF, G006680.pdf at SeekingMyRoots) could not be re-fetched/rendered as text during this audit — it triggers a file download rather than displayable HTML. The father-corroboration therefore rests on the original researcher's transcription and is retained at 'likely' confidence pending direct inspection of the PDF.
