Records & Research

Margaret Finch (b. 1815) was a daughter of George Finch (c.1786-1827) and Elizabeth Pierce (c.1790/1796-1827), who married 22 November 1812 in Cornwallis Township, Kings County, Nova Scotia. She was one of at least nine children; the family later moved to the Leeds area of Upper Canada, where her father died in 1827. The link to the trusted anchor rests on a single FamilySearch tree (LKKM-VVD) agreeing on her name, 1815 birth year, and both parents by name and 1827 death years. CAUTION: that tree lists TWO daughters born 1815 (Theodosia 1815-1836 and Margaret 1815-1884) with year-only dates, so it cannot confirm the anchor's precise 21 May 1815 date or distinguish Margaret from a possible twin. Her claimed 1884 death is an uncited tree entry, downgraded to unconfirmed.

  • Margaret Finch was a daughter of George Finch and Elizabeth Pierce, born 1815, one of at least 9 children (3 sons, 6 daughters) of this couple.

Open questions (6)
  • The anchor's exact birth date of 21 May 1815 could not be confirmed; the FamilySearch source gives only the year. A Cornwallis Township birth/baptism register (Cornwallis records 1720-1825, or Cornwallis Methodist Church baptisms 1814-1827) would likely hold the precise date.
  • TWIN/MISIDENTIFICATION RISK: the father's profile lists TWO daughters dated 1815 - Theodosia Finch (1815-1836) and Margaret Finch (1815-1884) - with year-only dates. The anchor's 21 May 1815 date must be checked against a primary register to confirm it belongs to Margaret and not Theodosia, and to rule out a swap of birth/death data between the two.
  • Margaret's 1884 death year was DOWNGRADED to unconfirmed: it comes from an uncited tree child-list with no death place and no record citation, and the anchor carries no death data. A primary death record (Leeds County, Upper Canada/Ontario, where the family relocated, or elsewhere) is needed before any death year is published.
  • No spouse, marriage, or children for Margaret herself were found. Did she marry? A married surname would explain the absence of records under 'Margaret Finch' and is the natural next step (Leeds County, Ontario marriage databases).
  • Margaret's individual FamilySearch person ID was not located and the child links were not retrievable without sign-in; opening her own profile would allow verification of her death details and any spouse/children, and would help separate her record from Theodosia's.
  • All findings about Margaret trace to a SINGLE FamilySearch tree (LKKM-VVD); the only independent cross-check (WikiTree Pierce-7906) corroborates the parents/sibling Amanda, not Margaret herself. Independent corroboration of Margaret as a distinct individual is still lacking.
