Records & Research
Karen Iversdater was born 23 September 1846, daughter of Iver Olsen (b. 1801) and Ragnhild Knutsdater (1801-1875), per the 2006 family report. Despite searching genealogy databases (FamilySearch, Geni, WikiTree, Geneanet) and the Norwegian National Archives (Digitalarkivet) under multiple spelling variants (Iversdatter/Iversdater, Paulsen/Paulson), no public record could be matched to her on two or more independent anchors. No confirmed findings beyond the report could be established; the candidates found were same-name-different-person individuals and were rejected. Audit note: all rejected candidates were re-checked against the known facts and confirmed as non-matches (each agrees on at most one weak anchor, e.g. birth year or given name, while diverging on parentage and/or place); the "nothing-found" conclusion is upheld.
No additional public records have been confirmed yet — only what the family report records.
Open questions (8)
- No birthplace/parish is given in the report, and the surname is a bare patronymic (Iversdater), so the authoritative Norwegian parish baptism record could not be disambiguated from thousands of similarly-named 'Karen' entries born ~1846 in Digitalarkivet. A parish or municipality is needed to locate her christening record.
- No death, burial, spouse, or children are recorded, so there is no second event to cross-reference against records for confirmation.
- Geni profile 'Karen Louise Iversdatter Filtvet (1846-1899)' shares the 1846 birth year but has different parentage/place (Filtvet) and is NOT this person; rejected as same-year coincidence (single weak anchor: birth year only).
- namiko.no 'Iver Olsen og Karen Marie Biermanns etterslekt' documents a DIFFERENT Iver Olsen (born 1804 in Biri, married Karen Marie Biermann), not this Iver Olsen (1801) married to Ragnhild Knutsdater; rejected (father's birth year and spouse both diverge).
- The Geneanet tree 'brynjulf' (Brynjulf Langballe / Michael Onsrud) recurred in searches but was not accessible; its 'Karen' entries (Karen Marie Olsen, Karen Marie Olsen Kastnes) do not match this person's given name/parents. Could be checked manually if access is available.
- Karen Paulson (1861-1956) on WikiTree was rejected: birth year (1861) and parents both differ from the known facts.
- Could this Karen have emigrated to the US under a married surname (e.g. Paulson)? An emigration/marriage record under a spouse's name was not found; a spouse name would be needed to pursue this.
- Audit conclusion: no candidate matched on 2+ independent anchors (e.g. birth date AND place, or a parent AND a spouse), so there is nothing to promote to a confirmed/likely finding. The dossier's rejections are methodologically sound and the 'nothing-found' status is correct.
