Records & Research

Audit complete. Identity is unambiguously confirmed as a multi-anchor match (spouse Joseph French 1823-1900, mother Edith, all five children, birthplace Homer/Licking County Ohio, shared burial plot Lot 27 Block 12). No wrong-person matches found; no findings removed. I used the one allowed browser fetch on memorial 70322075, which the dossier admitted it had never directly read. That read (a) surfaced her parents G. W. Beever and Edith Beever and sibling Sarah Beever, resolving the dossier's open question about unverified parentage and adding a new parentage finding, and (b) surfaced her 1911 obituary, which corroborates the source death date of 13 Jan 1911 ('died last Friday morning' before the 19 Jan paper) and the 1856 Clay Township marriage. Key correction: the report's death date of 18 Jan 1911 is now the suspect value - the source's 13 Jan is better supported by the obituary, so I reframed the death-date discrepancy to flag the report rather than the source. Confidences: kept burial, marriage, children, and husband findings at 'confirmed' (multi-anchor, unambiguous), added a 'likely' parentage finding (mother given-name + surname match but maiden surname Looker and parent links not in a primary record). The brothers James and Morgan remain uncorroborated (only sibling Sarah appears) and stay as an open question.

  • Grace Catherine Beever French is buried in Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Jones County, Iowa, in Lot 27, Block 12. Find a Grave records her dates as 31 Jan 1837 - 13 Jan 1911, and the memorial carries her obituary (Monticello Express, 19 Jan 1911) which confirms she was Mrs. Joseph French of Clay Township and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. L. J. (Arminda) Bender.

Open questions (6)
  • The report's death date of 18 Jan 1911 conflicts with the source death date of 13 Jan 1911, which is corroborated by her own obituary ('died last Friday morning' before the 19 Jan 1911 paper). The family-record 18 Jan value should be re-verified against a death certificate or burial register; the 13 Jan date currently has stronger evidence.
  • Birth year 1836 (report) vs 1837 (Find a Grave, with age-73-at-death consistent with 1837). Day and month (31 January) agree. An 1850/1860 Ohio/Iowa census or the gravestone inscription could resolve it.
  • The report notes brothers James and Morgan Beever of Homer, Ohio. The memorial lists only one sibling, Sarah Beever (1840-1842); James and Morgan are not corroborated by any consulted record and remain unverified.
  • Maternal surname: the known facts give the mother as Edith Looker; the memorial lists her under married name 'Edith Beever' (1798-1882). The maiden surname Looker is not yet independently confirmed - a marriage record for G. W. Beever and Edith would settle it.
  • Maiden surname is rendered both 'Beever' (memorial/parents) and 'Beaver' (obituary and county biography). The two spellings refer to the same family; the canonical spelling is unresolved.
  • Father 'G. W. Beever (1802-1846)' is shown on the memorial but the parent linkages are unsourced FindAGrave entries; a primary record (census, probate, or church record) is still wanted to firmly tie G. W. Beever and Edith to Grace.
