He arrived in Plymouth about 1643 and took the freeman's oath in 1657. He was constable in 1666. He was a merchant and amassed an estate that was the largest at that time in Plymouth Colony.
He was of Wiltshire, England. He and his six sons were persecuted by Charles the First and Bishop Laud. The family came to Massachusetts in 1635 on the ship, Planter. Alling went to New Haven with the Tuttle family; John went to Concord.
He was from the London area. He came to America on the Mayflower on the voyage which terminated at Plymouth in December, 1620. His wife and five daughters came on the ship, Anne, in 1623.
